The Fence Out Back

We live in a small-town neighborhood, with houses on two sides of us and across the street, but out back it's a different story.
Behind the backyard fence is a farmer's field.

We're country people at heart and this open space makes town living feel more like country living.

But, things are changing as they often do and this property is for sale. It will probably be turned into a housing subdivision.

We'll have to say goodbye to "our" field one day.

But until then, we'll observe the birds and butterflies it attracts, watch the clouds move across the open sky, enjoy the evening sunsets, and count our blessings to have had this field out back for 20 years.

And if we ever get backyard neighbors ... well, we already have a Good Fence.

Extending a special welcome to all Good Fences participants!

    1. Thank you! We especially enjoy the sky view, getting to watch the storms roll in from the south and the sun set in the west.

  2. Change is inevitable and I hope whatever change is made the transition will be smooth and your neighbors as friendly as they can be.

    1. Thanks, Margene. I have every reason to believe future back fence neighbors will be just as wonderful as the neighbors we have now. Needville is a great place to live.

  3. I miss the unobstructed view of the countryside that I had on the farm. Enjoy the open area and the view while you can.

Robert Frost said it best in The Mending Wall, "Good fences make good neighbors."

    1. We will. It might be years before the property is purchased. We can certainly hope for that anyway.

  4. Oh...that is a lovely view. We used to have woods at the end of our home and now there is a development there. Great shot for Good Fences!

    1. Yes, living in the Houston area, we've seen how fast they can turn acreage into houses. Urban sprawl may be on the way, but it hasn't reached us yet. So thankful we can drive outside of the town limits and still be in the country.
