You Don't Make it Easy

Dear Little Hummingbirds,
  Ruby-throated Hummingbirds

We go through this every year.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird

Me with my camera, you with your aversion to cameras.

You make me work for every snap. At the end of our photo session I have to throw most of your pictures in the trash.

But, once in a while there are a couple of shots that are good enough to share. Thank you for that.

Your admirer,

  1. Great shots! All of my attempts to photograph them went into the trash bin.

    1. It's challenging and that's probably why I keep trying. Often like you, I throw them ALL out.

    1. Thanks, Debby. It's usually easier to get a good shot when there's a large population of hummers at the feeders. Right now we have about 12 at a time, but at the peak of the migration we often have 100 at a time. At that point, they lose a lot of their cautiousness, but they still don't like the reflection of the camera lens...and they're really quick.

  4. Your perseverance pays off! The colors shimmer in the first photo and the third, stop-action, is incredible. Thank you for sharing the, Tracy!

    1. Thanks, Margene. I do enjoy having photos to look back on after the hummers are gone, so that's why I keep at it.
